Description

These seeds originate from gardens in Thailand and are probably a variety of Nymphaea Pubescen or Nymphea Nouchali or a hybrid of these sorts, both varieties have similar serrated leaves.

they are very ornamental and can give your water garden a boost of color having many beautiful shades of pink, blue and white. They are also farmed in Thailand for food and the flowers are used in teas for various medicinal purposes.

The 'Kang Sai Boa' (water lily stalk soup) is a favorite amongst some of the villagers there and I often find my self throwing a few leaves and stalks into curries or stir-fries from time to time for extra goodness.

50 x Nymphaea sp.NEW SEASONS Lotus seeds.

Sow in a small container by pressing the seeds softly into the surface of some sandy loam soil and fill by misting the soil until it is about 4cm deep in water. Alternately you can sprinkle the seeds directly over top after the tub has been filled with water and let them sink to the bottom. Leave on the windowsill. Remember to keep misting when water gets low...be patient, germination may take some time. when the seed is ready it will send out a small sprout like a blade of grass then gradually begin to form tiny rosettes of lotus leaves. Transplant into bigger tank. Eventually it will send out the floating lotus 'lily'-pads and of course flowers. Algae treatment may help improve upon germination conditions, also watch out for waterborne larvae which might possibly eat seeds.
