Fast growing rosette lettuce with long, burgundy-red crisp leaves. Produces large, slow bolting, non-heading plants with sweet, succulent tender wavy leaves with delicious flavour. Does not get bitter in hot weather.
Excellent in sandwiches & as garnish, braised or added to soups. Adds an unique vibrant colour to food.
Grows best in semi shade & cool weather. Thinning makes excellent extra-early salads. Make successive plantings to extend harvest.
Sow autumn to spring in trays for transplanting into rich soil. Lettuces need soil high in organic matter & nutrients, particularly nitrogen. An organic fertilizer with a seaweed base is ideal.
Sow direct or start in seed trays to transplant seedlings out in 4 to 6 weeks. Grow all year long depending on your region:
