Vintage Colour-Changing Art Glass Centrepiece – Murano / Italian Style

An exceptionally striking vintage art glass centrepiece in lilac-purple with vivid ruby-red detailing.

One of its most remarkable features is the dramatic colour change under different lighting. Indoors the glass presents as rich lilac-purple, while in strong natural sunlight it shifts radically towards a pale icy blue. This type of colour-changing effect is associated with neodymium/alexandrite glass and gives the piece a completely different character depending on the light.

The large freeform sculptural design, substantial weight and colour treatment are strongly reminiscent of mid-century Murano / Italian art glass. However, there is no visible signature or surviving label, so the maker and origin cannot be verified. I am therefore not claiming a confirmed Murano attribution. It is being offered as an exceptional piece of vintage colour-changing art glass, and buyers are encouraged to assess the photographs and form for themselves.

I have owned and enjoyed this piece for approximately 15 years, mostly displayed in my glass cabinet.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No significant chips, cracks or damage. There are only very minor surface marks / tiny edge nibbles consistent with age and display, which do not detract from the overall appearance.

Pickup from Tawa, Wellington strongly preferred.

Collection from Auckland may also be possible by arrangement, with a contribution towards transport costs.

A genuinely unusual and beautiful piece. I am in no hurry to sell and have priced it accordingly, given its colour-changing glass, excellent condition and uncertain attribution.
