Background / provenance
This hand-stitched needlework panel depicts Scrooge McDuck and was completed in New Zealand by a woman in Gisborne in the late 1960s. The design is worked on a printed mesh that includes a “© Walt Disney Productions” copyright line and a colour key, indicating use of a licensed Disney needlework canvas or kit available during the period.
While the design itself derives from a commercial pattern, the execution is entirely hand-made, reflecting the domestic craft culture of the 1960s when licensed character needlework kits were commonly stitched at home and finished as decorative pieces. No maker’s label or packaging survives, and the panel remains unframed.
