Beneath the bonnet, a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel - supported by 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance - produces 259kW and 720Nm, delivered through an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The mild-hybrid system adds a brief, near-imperceptible electric boost under acceleration while smoothing the engine's stop-start operation to the point of irrelevance. The result is a drivetrain that feels considerably larger than its displacement suggests, with the fuel economy to match its diesel badge.
