The third-generation Cayenne arrived with a point to make. Lighter, sharper, and more dynamically resolved than any Cayenne before it, the 2019 model represented Porsche's clearest statement yet that an SUV need not compromise on the things that matter most. Under the bonnet, a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 produces 250kW and 450Nm, channelled through an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive. Zero to 100km/h arrives in 6.2 seconds, and the Cayenne will continue to 245km/h without drama. These are numbers that a sports car from a decade ago would have been proud of - delivered here in a five-seat SUV with a full boot.

The chassis is the real story. Built on the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform but developed with Porsche's characteristic thoroughness, the third-generation Cayenne introduced a fully independent multilink rear suspension and standard steel spring suspension with the option of adaptive air - the result being a ride and handling balance that no rival has since convincingly surpassed. It steers, changes direction, and communicates with a directness that simply shouldn't be possible at this size and weight.

Inside, the shift to a touchscreen-led interior brought a cleaner, more contemporary environment - wider, more driver-focused, and unmistakably Porsche in its material quality and attention to detail.
