Yamaha Xt400 1982
Description
BEST XT400 ON THE PLANET Brought New in 1982 from Seddon Yamaha for trail riding. I did 26116 km’s up fire brakes, over mountains, up rivers & along beach’s. I shot 13 pigs, 1 Dear & a fish thanks to this fabulous motorbike It was Always washed & oiled after use. Though I’ve owned 121 trail bikes this was by far the best one. That’s why I still own it. I Had the opportunity to buy a complete set of XT400 internal motorcycle engine parts for sweet F/A from Seddon Yamaha when they closed down & had my mate a Motorcycle Machanic put all those new parts in it in 2022. Though the speedo says zero k’s because it’s new. I’ve done 1440 k’s On it since I had all the new parts put in it. Ps the only original bit in the motor is the big end & some bits in the gear box. All the rest of it was new. Not to mention there was nothing wrong with it when we did that to it. I’m just pedantic that way. PPS we didn’t bore it out we just honed it so is still on original size rings. We replaced all the nuts, bolts & washers on the whole bike with stainless steel ones because that’s what It deserves. It goes perfectly, never let me down & is ridiculously water proof. “I could tell you some story’s”. Everything works as it should. I don’t give a shit about original, I give a shit about IMPROVED. Thats why I spent $3000 on a set off Stainless Headers & Stainless Muffler. Has an after market Acerbis Carbon Fibre Bash Plate on it because the original one was crap. As you can see my tank has a yellow stripe on it instead of a red stripe like everyone else’s. Because my bike is not like anyone else’s & though there XT400’s are Dam Good. MINES BETTER & of course is fitted with a Burgler Alarm. I’m only selling it because I’m to fn old to use it any more. It comes with a set of new original mirrors that are still in there box. If you just want a motorbike buy something else. If you want a REAL MOTORBIKE buy this one. PS I took the yellow strap of the seat & put the black one back on.
Questions & Answers
Nice example of a good model, but price is a bit steep. They were only $4k new. I rode one. XT 550 was good too. Easier to start than the XT 500 twin shock, with decompression lever. XT 250 mono shock was nimble. mariner67 (24 • 1:38 am, Thu, 13 Nov )I’ve seen tt500s & xr500s whitch I’ve owned for more than that & my bikes better I’ll proof it. drewballss (59 • Thursday, 13 November 2025 )Your bike, your price. mariner67 (24 • 1:43 am, Thu, 13 Nov )That’s right drewballss (59 • Thursday, 13 November 2025 )hi, have you a spare tank in good Nic? dr.shouty (63 • 8:28 pm, Sat, 20 Dec )No Aorry drewballss (59 • Saturday, 20 December 2025 )I know this bike and it's immaculate. Thanks . paulywarly (5 • 8:48 am, Sat, 3 Jan )Don Gallagher of THUMPER BIKES in CHCH. 027 441 6292 He restores TT500’s to perfection. He found all the bits I needed to restore my XT400 to a condition that’s is now in better than new condition. He’s great & I’m sure we’ll happily help you out. Good choice of bike, arn’t they great. Cheers Drew drewballss (59 • Saturday, 3 January 2026 )I got one of these (with rego), before that I an a couple of Xt500 and a couple of SR 500. The XT400 is by far the better bike in my opinion. Easier to start for sure and a little lighter. I am 65 now, I hope I can still kick start this motor in 10 years. I am starting to struggle now. Good luck selling this, I don't think I be selling mine any time soon, cheers lighthouseman (3138 • 9:15 pm, Sat, 3 Jan )
