These two beautiful rural off-grid cabins are situated within Awaawaroa Ecovillage on Waiheke Island.
This is a gorgeous private retreat, looking out to native forest, western sunsets, and not a building in sight.
The cabins and the wider site receive sunshine throughout the day until it sets over the distant western hills.
The solar power provided enough energy for our family of four - we even charged our electric car through the summer. The beautiful fireplace keeps the home cosy through the colder winter nights.
There is Resource Consent to build a much larger dwelling on the property, however the cabins provide beautiful places to live while you design your future home.
The land is owned collectively as part of an ecovillage which has been going strong for 25 years. We have monthly meetings where ideas and issues are discussed, and working bees where work is followed by cake! We have loved our time here and have many fond memories - especially of olive harvest time! We will miss the people and the land.
You have one hectare (10,000m2) for your own personal use, and a share in the remaining 150 hectares. There is opportunity for growing organic food at scale, having animals, planting a forestry block for your future, or exploring other opportunities on the land either with others or individually.
Some neighbours are growing, catching and raising most of their food. There is a small herd of cows, fish in the bay, many prolific olive trees, fruit trees, chickens, sheep, and all kinds of organic growing.
The land stretches from Awaawaroa Bay (where you can kayak, fish for your dinner, swim when the tide is in, or enjoy the bird sanctuary) and up to Trig Hill / Puke Atua above Onetangi, connecting to the top of the public road to Onetangi. There are a number of tracks through the land for residents' enjoyment of the forest and wetlands.
