Te Heke Mai - Support for new employees
Te Heke Mai is your online coach to help you through COVID-19.
There are three models at play within Te Heke Mai (THM):
1. THM Coach-Employer-Participant Traditional Te Heke Mai Model
In this model, the employer is an active participant in the Te Heke Mai programme and onboards their new employees to the programme, sets clear expectations and works with the independent THM Coach to provide mentoring and support to their new employees. This was the first model launched, used by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) when placing their clients in jobs with participating employers.
Since the platform provides employers the ability to connect to their participants in the digital way and provide support there has been an increase in the uptake.
2. Coach-Participant (No-Employer) Model
In this model, a participant is onboarded to the THM programme either before they are in employment, or if their employer does not wish to participate in the THM programme. This is when the participant has indicated an interest in the programme, or it is deemed that it is beneficial to have the mentoring and coaching support in place before the participant starts employment. The participant may have just finished a skills training programme and/or another mentoring support programme.
Currently Te Heke Mai is already providing support to most of the active participants in this format, particularly where employers’ resources are concentrated on COVID response.
3. Employer-Business Coach–Participant Business Coach Model
In this model, the employer has their own in-house coaches to provide the mentoring and coaching support through the THM platform. These business coaches will only have access and interact with participants from their own organisation.
Given the current COVID-19 situation there is an increasing need to provide support to participants digitally, hence the goal categories on the Te Heke Mai have been developed to provide work support and wellbeing goals.
Benefits of Te Heke Mai
1. Reaching a Common future together
Te Heke Mai helps to develop a rewarding, long-lasting relationship between coach, employers and their participants. It creates a structured support system that makes expectations clear, feedback simple, and gives both (employer and participant) the support of a personal coach.
2. Set clear expectations
THM helps participants see what attitudes and actions they’ll need to thrive at work or take care of their wellbeing by creating “My Goals” in the app.
3. Regular check-ins keep communication flowing
Daily, weekly, or monthly check-ins show how well things are going. Sharing of feedback from employers/coach in an independent non-judgmental way with the participants helps to motivate them or can highlight areas that need more focus.
4. A coach is always available
For a chat message, email or phone call if either the employer or the participant needs advice or help to solve an issue.
5. Clear visibility on achievements
A dynamic newsfeed recognises milestones and celebrates success.
