Life in Glendowie

With ocean access, and plenty of green spaces, there’s a lot to love about Glendowie. Here are some of our top picks:

  • Tahuna Torea Reserve: this spectacular 25ha reserve takes you from the edge of the residential area to the edge of the ocean. At low tide, it’s possible to walk out to the end of the sandspit that tails out from the reserve.
  • Churchill Park: another fantastic green space, and somewhere that allows you to totally forget you’re still in Auckland. Complete with winding streams and grazing cattle, this is a great place to take the family or enjoy some serenity.
  • Karaka Bay beach: this peaceful little beach is a fantastic spot to sit, relax, and watch the boats come and go. Talking of the boats, the Glendowie Boating Club is a popular place for kids to learn to sail, and there’s always plenty of boats and wind surfers out when the conditions are right.

Getting around

For commuters into the CBD who want to avoid the rush hour traffic, one option is the train station in nearby Glen Innes. From here, there are just two stops before Britomart, making for an easy and efficient commute.

In addition to this, there are a number of bus routes taking passengers both to the city and other Auckland suburbs.
