Description
A 19th century lithograph (1839), after Louis Auguste De Sainson, titled Village de Korora-Reka, the old Maori name for Russell in the Bay of Islands. Signed in the image by the engraver Jean Denis Nargeof. The print shows the village circa 1834, with Maori figures in the foreground and sailing ships in the bay. De Sainson was the sole illustrator for Dumont D’Urvilles “Voyage pittoresque autour du monde (1839) being the expedition of the Astrolabe. The print is heavily foxed as many are after such a long time, nonetheless is a rare litho, find another as they say. Good luck.
