Unique cruising Trimaran
Description
This Barry Colson design trimaran was custom built and brought in from Australia for experiments by our robotics company. It was designed to be sailed (tested in Australia) and powered but we ended up just utilising her for solar/electric driven platform testing various electronic and sensor payloads. Its been an awesome boat, super stable out at sea and highly maneuverable. Enough room in the cabin and hull for all of our electronics and masses of deck room, high enough to stay dry for the team and an open stern for easy access for launching and retrieving experimental equipment. The ama are retractable for going on a trailer. The construction is ply and glass (with some kevlar in the stern) so easy to repair where/when needed (you can see we have done basic touch ups from some of our equipment). There are dual level waterproof compartments in the ama, in the bow and stern bottom section of the central hull. It has been on dry land for almost a year now and our work has moved on to other platforms so is no longer needed. We were about to give it a repaint but figure someone else might want to change the colour scheme so...There is no trailer (we used a car trailer), no mast, no sails and no rudder(s). There is a centre board (pictured in blue on the deck) and perhaps some light tramps for either side (I will check for these as we have never used them). There are some navigation lights, bow fittings and a gps (black dome unit on cabin) other than that it is fairly bare bones. There are holes to fill but nothing major that some epoxy can't fix. The only issue we can see is that while on land we have noticed some water getting in from somewhere, most likely somewhere in the cockpit, but should be easy enough to find - we just don't have the time. Overall this is an awesome boat for someone who wants a project that is a fix-up and not a rebuild.
