The Townson 30 Firebird presents a fabulous opportunity for the cruising family.
Townson 30’s make great cruising yachts; stiff, easy handling, seaworthy and with excellent performance. They grace any anchorage with their presence, while providing a comfortable, airy interior. The modest draft of 1.45m gives many anchoring options. Firebird’s hull, decks and cabin were built by the late Des Townson in 1965 for a well-known and respected Auckland yachting family. Firebird has had only two owners since. The current owner, an experienced yachtsman, has lavished time and money on new equipment. There’s a virtually brand-new Nanni 20hp three-cylinder diesel with only 80 hours on the clock, new feathering three-bladed Kiwi Prop, new mainsail, and much else. Firebird’s in very sound condition. Construction is double diagonal kauri, with plywood decks and cabin top. The paint is a little tired, but a long way from falling off. Redo that over the next couple of years, fit some fresh squab covers, and you’d have a wonderful cruising yacht for the Gulf.
