Little Jim - Arch Logan 1934 classic
Description
Become a quarter share custodian in a famous NZ classic!
Little Jim is a very special boat, and an important piece of New Zealand maritime history. Designed by Arch Logan and built by Bill Couldrey, the A Class Little Jim (“LJ”) was launched in Auckland in November 1934 and has raced and cruised the waters of the Hauraki Gulf ever since under the sail number A16.
She is arguably one of New Zealand’s finest classic yachts having been extremely well cared for since a full restoration by Peter Brookes in 2009. LJ’s distinctive lines and varnished cabin coamings make her instantly recognisable and she is a familiar sight in many anchorages in the Hauraki Gulf.
LIttle Jim’s alloy masthead Bermudan rig makes her a breeze to sail compared with many other classics, meaning weekend cruises and short handed sailing is no stretch. Appointed with two quarter berths, two settee berths, galley with cooker, fridge, and sink, forward head, plenty of fresh water, lazarette storage and sun cover, cruising is a pleasure. Ideally located on R pier in Westhaven immediately next to the gate in a very sheltered berth.
LJ has a decorated racing history, starting with her Auckland Anniversary Regatta win in 1935 continuing right up to her Classic Yacht Regatta wins of 2023 and 2025. She has also competed in the Coastal Classic race and placed 2nd in Division 5 in 2023.
Changing priorities mean that after 8 incredible years we are looking for LJ’s next custodians to race and cruise on her.
