Description

Whiting 29.

Please note that if you win, I will need payment within a week, and you will need to take possession within two weeks. Not sure if I can transfer the berth rental at Westhaven to the buyer, but I am happy to do that if they want.

Loved the time I have had with this boat. Bought it to learn to sail seven years ago. The fact that I haven't ended up on the bottom speaks to its ease of handling.

Will be sad when it goes.

Spent most of the time cruising around the gulf islands taking daytrips and the odd overnighter or two with friends.

The main reason for selling is the engine is unreliable and overheats. I don't have the skills to fix that.

It is overdue a topside paint and antifoul. I waterblasted it last Jan.

Apart from that it is sound. Very dry inside. Electric head which works. Stereo doesn't.

Headsail is 2-3 years old, Main was with the boat when I bought it. Got a few old sails in the garage but they look like museum pieces.

That's about it. Send in your questions and I will answer as best I can.

  • Nice yacht ,, looks cosy,, ,, what sort of keel does she have pakeha-dave (277) • 7:08 pm, Sun, 31 May It is cosy. It has a fin keel. sidhypes (17) • Sunday, 31 May 2026
  • What is the engine make and model? dpenn (136) • 7:43 pm, Sun, 31 May It's the original - Volvo I think. 17-18 hp. Not 100% sure. sidhypes (17) • Sunday, 31 May 2026
  • Hi, what’s the engine model? How long before it overheats? jradf (97) • 7:44 pm, Sun, 31 May Depends. Doesn't like to rev high. Last time I was waiting for a friend and idling for 20-30 minutes. alarm came on just as we egaged to leave berth. Contributed to my decision :) sidhypes (17) • Sunday, 31 May 2026
  • I am not interested in buying the boat, I already have a great yacht. But engine overheating is usually pretty simple, water flow? Impeller? Blocked water inlet? Heat exchanger clear? Thermostat if it has one? Please don't be offended but this should be an easy fix and if I did not already have a yacht I sure would be bidding on what looks like a nice yacht for very little money. dlt2 (154) • 8:59 pm, Sun, 31 May Thanks, but too late now :) I would have thought Volvo would have done that when they serviced it a couple of years ago. sidhypes (17) • Sunday, 31 May 2026

  • Photos taken in Jan this year.. it was sunny :) Seller comment Monday, 1 June 2026
  • Hi as a Whiting owner, the hull is solid fibreglass, deck non std looks like glassed over ply if it’s masthead rig it’s keel will be 4.6’ inches if Fractional 6foot. An unusual interior with the engine amidships but cooling probably an easy fix by adding barnacle buster to the cooling system as per the product directions. Cheers manaia29 (30) • 7:24 pm, Mon, 1 Jun Thanks- it’s fractional sidhypes (17) • Monday, 1 June 2026

  • Just an FYI - I went down today and fired up the engine. It ran for ten minutes no issues. Recent damp weather has a bit of mould topside. Half an hour with soap and scrub brush will sort that. I have done nothing like an open home prep. Seller comment Saturday, 6 June 2026
