Classic Kotik Yawl by Iain Oughtred
Description
Design Kotik by Iain Oughtred. Also named Kotik. This means "seal pup" because she is a smaller version of Iain's design Grey Seal.
LOD 6.6m, beam 2.2m, draft 400/800mm. Built 2016-2020, of meranti marine plywood (WEST system epoxy-glued lapstrake, fibreglassed both sides), kauri, oak, ash, kwila, mahogany, imported “Oregon” (Canadian Douglas fir). The keel (ballast) bolts are of aluminium-bronze embedded in epoxy.
Cruising equipment includes a Bestway inflatable dinghy. The motor is a 6hp 4stroke Mercury (new February 2022). She can sail or motor at 6 knots.
We have kept Kotik at home but she is anti-fouled for a marina or mooring, last done September 2024.
Hot-dipped galvanised non-tilting tandem trailer designed and built for Kotik by Toko Trailers Ltd, Milton, Otago. Towing weight, including gear and trailer:2000 kg.
Kotik has been much admired at classic boat events, and in rigging areas, and is also in the online <Worldwide Classic Boat Show> (q.v.). She is suitable for two people cruising and informal racing. We have enjoyed cruising on the Fiordland and Waitaki lakes, Pelorus Sound, and the Abel Tasman National Park, with clubs or by ourselves.
We now wish to sell her for reasons of our age and health. We will provide free delivery within the South Island. Otherwise, delivery will be negotiable.
The Pajero will also be available as an optional extra. Valuation is $15,000.
Details of Kotik's construction and adventures can be seen on the WoodenBoat Forum, as "Kotik,Kotik,Kotik!". (You have to be registered and logged in to see the pictures, but it doesn't cost anything and you don't have to subscribe to the magazine.)
