The Active Hybrid 3 is based on the 335i, it has a 3 litre straight six (N55 engine code), with a ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. Between the engine and box sits a 40kW electric motor with a 1.3KWh battery pack in the boot. Performance figures for this combination are 250kW @ 6000rpm and an impressive 450Nm from 1000-5000rpm. (335hp-330Lbft), the electric motor generating 210Nm. The only way to get more power in this generation 3 Series (F30) was to get a M car. It can run purely on the electric motor up to 75kph but realistically, in city driving the car tips in and out of electric only dependant on input and assists on longer journeys for lower fuel consumption.
