2001 BMW 530i
Background check
Description
For Sale: 2001 BMW E39 530i Touring – Green over Tan – Manual Green over tan build. This car was a two-year restoration project, taking a once-loved E39 and bringing it back to proper condition. Fully certified, WOF and rego current.
530i – 3.0L straight-six (M54B30) Converted to a 5-speed manual, fitted with a lightweight flywheel and M3 clutch kit.
- Engine fully reconditioned by Speedfactor (Tauranga) – now very healthy
- Speedfactor exhaust – sounds just right (not loud or droney)
- Drives exactly as it should
- BC coilovers up front
- Factory rear SLS adjusted and reset
- Simmons wheels
- Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres Interior
- Front seats fully retrimmed with new leather and bolstering (~$7k, receipts available)
- Electric seats fully functional
- 3-stage seat heating works perfectly
- Rear seats not retrimmed (kids’ seats were used)
- Full audio upgrade: new speakers in factory locations, new amp and sub
- Factory-looking Eonon touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Air conditioning blows very cold
- Recently completed a ~4-hour non-stop trip with zero issues
- New front bumper
- Bonnet and roof repainted
- Paint correction completed elsewhere Has 3x keys. The car lives in the garage and is only taken out to be washed or the occasional short drive — simply not getting used.
This build blew the budget. I have receipts and spreadsheets totaling well over $50k. There are a few minor interior trim items still to finish:
- Some boot plastics
- RH boot carpet arch Nothing structural or mechanical.
Any prospective buyer really needs to see the car in person — photos don’t do it justice. There’s plenty more detail, spares, and background to discuss.
The brief for this build was:
- Look good
- Be reliable
- Be comfortable
It achieves all three easily. Performance and handling exceeded expectations, but it’s not a 300 kW track car — it’s a sorted, usable, properly built E39 Touring.
Going to build an overland car this year, so possibly open to trades on X5 E53 or Cayenne S.
