1983 Ferrari Other Mondial
Background check
Description
I've owned this car since March 2022 and prior to myself many friends in the Ferrari Club of NZ have also owned it and still fondly talk about it at our regular meetings. I've got a large car collection and I'm well known to meticulously look after all my cars and this one is no exception. It gets maintained by Auto Restorations Christchurch and it has recently had over $16,000 spent replacing the AC system. Just had a new 1y WOF. Comes with the factory wheels and tyres + a set of 4 235/45/R17 incase you prefer not to use the metrics.
The Ferrari Mondial was built by Ferrari from May 1980 to 1993. Its name comes from the successful Mondial 500 race cars of the 1950's. Its first incarnation was the Mondial 8. This one, the Mondial QV was produced from 1982 to 1986. The QV addition denotes Quattrovalvole, or 4 valves per cylinder. It is a transverse mid-engined, rear wheel drive V8 powered 2+2seater coupe. It employs the same V8 engine as the Ferrari 308 of the same period.
This car is one of only 152 right hand drive Mondial QV's to be produced.
The Mondial 8 replaced the Bertone styled 208/308 GT4 as the small 4 seater in the Ferrari line up. Styled by Pininfarina, it's sweeping lines replaced the boxier styling of the earlier model. Through its 13 year evolution there were 4 model variations including a very popular cabriolet. The original engine displacement grew in 1985 from 3 litres to 3.2 and in the final version of the car, the Mondial T, a 3.4 litre unit was installed north / south with a transversely mounted transmission, the T in the name denoting transverse. This was the same engine / transmission configuration as the Formula One cars of the time and has persisted to this day for all the mid engined designs. The 1993 Mondial T was the last example of a 4 seater mid engined Ferrari. There have been other 4 seaters but none with a mid-engined layout. Over the 13 years in production, 6884 cars carrying the Mondial badge were produced.
Questions & Answers
Hi, From which country was it imported, and when? Thanks. online2 (632 • 3:56 pm, Sun, 15 Feb )HI, Production date 10/82, Delivered UK 1/83, First NZ owner 4/87. I have a dropbox link with scans of all work its had done from 1992 onwards if you message me I can send you that. Car comes with the extra set of wheels and the original wheels, and an extra aftermarket sporty exhaust as well as the factory original (fitted). 9and3 (275 • Sunday, 15 February 2026 )I purchased this 3/22 from Southern Specialist Cars for $70k, since then I've spent $25k on sourcing original tyres, exhaust and a service and full overhaul of the AC system (new pump and fan motor). I have a collection of cars and meticulously look after them all - this is no exception. The only job to do on this is to replace the oil pan and gearbox case gaskets (which I have purchased and will supply) - an easy quick job that can be done at the next oil change to stop a small oil leak.
