1967 Fiat 500 Bambina
Description
Tidy Fiat Bambina for sale as I no longer have time to enjoy it and someone else may want to give it the run that it deserves.
Here are some of the details:
- Located in Hawkes Bay, so didn't get wet often.
- Restored in 2012
- Engine upgrade in 2018, including:
- New bearings/valve guides throughout
- Larger 595cc barrels and pistons
- 650cc head for better breathing
- Larger 28mm carburettor
- Large capacity alloy sump added for cooling and greater oil volume
- Mild 'sports' cam added to make it more peppy
- Sports exhaust (breathing thing again)
- Spring loaded alloy push rod tubes to reduce leaks in an awkward place
- 123 ignition to make points/condenser adjustments obsolete
- Comfortably drives at 80km/hour with the original 4 speed gearbox (a 5 speed from a 126 would be a great upgrade)
- Alloy rocker cover to have a better oil seal than the original pressed steel ones.
- Taylor Spiro Pro HT leads
Car comes with a bunch of spares - original parts that I replaced plus new parts of which I ordered too many.
Note: Odometer says 81671 miles (listing is in km). Has done about 8000km since engine rebuild. Update: now over 82000 miles as I have been running around with it prior to sale.
Runs nicely on 98 octane fuel.
Recently warranted at VTNZ with only notes around front brakes need adjusting and LH king pin is getting close to needing replacement (have one of these kits in the spares). Update: king pin upper arms were slightly under torqued. This may fix the issue.
Other potential issues: Fuel tank needs a clean out (4 bolts and 1 hoseclip to get this out as it is under the front bonnet).
Can be viewed nights or on weekends - call Mark after hours on 021 02973571.
Questions & Answers
Hi Mondo, what is it's rust history and/or current situation? Thanks, Bill. bill911 (309 • 2:55 pm, Mon, 19 Jan )Hello, it was pretty clean with only the dented nose needing replacing. I did fill all of the double skinned panels with a loctite rust killer while doing her up as these can be a notorious perform area. Cheers, Mark mondoblu (1 • Monday, 19 January 2026 )Thanks Mark, it sounds interesting. I saw Drew Pritchard on Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars on TV last night with a Fiat 500 and it fired up my interest again LOL If you didn't see it, it's probably on demand. bill911 (309 • 8:37 pm, Mon, 19 Jan )I'll check it out mondoblu (1 • Monday, 19 January 2026 )
