Description

Looking for a hatchback? This 2001 Fiat Punto HGT is a compact Italian hot hatch with some personality. This imported 1.7L petrol model has been through three NZ owners and needs some attention, but still offers a fun driving experience.

The Punto HGT was the sporty version in the range, with its bigger 1.7L engine giving it more grunt than standard models. It's easy to drive around town and simple to park thanks to its small size.

Some things need fixing up, but it's a straightforward car to work on. These Puntos are known to be fun to drive with good handling despite their small size.

Features:

  • 1.7L petrol engine
  • Compact hatchback design
  • Manual
  • Imported vehicle
  • Sunroof

If you're after a project car with Italian flair, or just need a cheap to run car that's easy to park, this could be worth a look. Feel free to get in touch with any questions.

  • Hi what needs fixing? Cheers smartalek (4) • 8:01 am, Mon, 8 Dec Air bag light comes on sometimes Third gear syncro a little noisy Auxiliary belt cracked Stalls sometimes at idle agentmj (13) • Monday, 8 December 2025
  • Have you got maintenance records and in particular when the cambelt was done etc. Is there a current service sticker on the windscreen that you can show? Has the lack of idle been checked out? Does it throw third gear under acceleration? Price sounds ok initially but if the cambelt also needs doing there is $2,000 plus worth of work that needs doing now by the sound of it. dominic41 (799) • 10:21 am, Tue, 9 Dec No I don’t have maintenance records. I have had the car 1 year. I personally changed the cambelt and water pump (I am a mechanic). No it doesn’t pop out of gear. My scanner didn’t work on car very well to check out what is going on. It stalls sometimes just before it is at full temperature. Oil change is due. agentmj (13) • Tuesday, 9 December 2025
