1997 Jaguar XJ6 LWB
Background check
Description
-New WOF- Up for sale is my beloved XJ6. A great spec in beautiful Brooklands Green over a tan interior, and a rare long wheelbase model (one of only 747 long wheelbase XJ6s). Being a solid, honest car with only 94,000km this is the perfect choice for a comfy weekend cruiser, or daily driver with style.
If you know your Jags you know this is the one to go for, being a very late model X300 with the renowned AJ16 engine. The interior is in near perfect condition, aside from some minor wear on the driver's seat. It has a working 6 disc CD changer, radio, and cassette player, and the factory Harmon Kardon sound system which still sounds great. The whole car is original with no modifications.
It has had over $4000 of recent work including 4 new Michelin tyres, a new alternator, transmission mount, and a replacement differential (original was leaking and whining badly). There are no oil leaks from anywhere under the car, and under the rocker cover the engine still looks brand new. It runs smoothly and healthily, with enough power when you need it without drinking the fuel too fast. The suspension is nice and supple, and just floats over speed bumps.
Please note there are some minor issues:
- The paint has sun damage on the left side, I recommend viewing before purchase. It has been ceramic coated to preserve it but is unfortunately not in showroom condition.
- The air conditioning does not work. I believe the compressor needs to be replaced.
- The anti-lock light occasionally comes on, but goes away.
- The seat memory function only saves the steering wheel position and does not save the seat position.
- The interior clock no longer works.
All in all it is an utterly fantastic car and has been a dream to own, although I am a BMW man at heart and want to get back in a 5 series. You will not be disappointed driving and owning this car. Pre purchase inspections are welcome, and I'm happy to answer any questions. Price negotiable. Thanks!

Please advise location willco (217 • 2:16 pm, Sun, 8 Mar )Crofton Downs, Wellington. Can arrange delivery for fuel cost. Cheers maz5miata (12 • Sunday, 8 March 2026 )How long have you owned it, what service history do you have, are you getting a new wof, cheers. juliecov (196 • 7:55 pm, Sun, 8 Mar )Hi there, Only owned since October last year (5 months). Previous owners had it for about 10 years I believe, elderly man who got too old to drive. I bought the car from his son. Unfortunately only have a few documents from work done on the car. Will come with a new wof if it runs out before selling, but still valid until end of this month. Thanks! maz5miata (12 • Sunday, 8 March 2026 )Where was the car imported from and what year did it arrive in NZ? salixt (35 • 7:39 am, Sat, 14 Mar )The car was imported from Singapore in 2005, with 44,000km at the time. maz5miata (12 • Saturday, 14 March 2026 )Took the car for a wof today - just needs a front lower ball joint. Will get one fitted and a wof before sale, if not done in time, will knock some money off to cover it. Cheers Seller comment Saturday, 14 March 2026 Hi, re your 3.2 LWB Jaguar please advise: 1.Any issues with the electrics and electronics? 2. Any headliner sagging? 3. Is the radion configured to NZ stations? 4. Tread left and size of tyres? 5. Does it have a CD player? 6. Have you had the ball joint replaced and a quote to fix aircon? 7. It's difficult to see the sun/ paint damage in the pixs - is it fadding or cracking? richard994 (2 • 1:28 pm, Thu, 26 Mar )1. Interior clock doesn't work, seat memory doesn't save. Anti Lock light intermittent. 2. Rear pinned up with beige upholstery pins - looks quite neat, but definitely not original. Front is fine. 3. Radio gets all NZ stations. 4. Tyres are near new - 225 width, 16 inch wheels. 5. Yes, 6 disc CD changer. 6. Ball joint getting replaced next week, and wof will be rechecked the same day. Not had a quote to fix the AC sorry. 7. Some cracking patterns in the clear coat. Best to view if picky :) maz5miata (12 • Thursday, 26 March 2026 )Happy to provide close up photos of the paint damage - there should be a message button on the listing. Seller comment Thursday, 26 March 2026 Ok, thanks. Not sure what you mean by 'message button on listing'? Let me know when the ball joint is replaced etc and I will drive down from PN to view car etc. I'll call Armstongs in the meantime to enquire about aircon repair - do you think it is a regas or mechanical? richard994 (2 • 4:02 pm, Thu, 26 Mar )Sorry, I just mean that I can't share photos without an inquiry coming through first. Trademe doesn't allow contact details in comments. Unfortunately I believe the problem with the AC is mechanical and not just in need of a regas. I had it regassed at my work, but still no cold air. So they evacuated the gas again. No leaks from the system though. Cheers maz5miata (12 • Thursday, 26 March 2026 )UPDATE: the car now has a fresh VTNZ wof. I've also taken some underbody photos for anybody interested. PS. I have my eye on a car for sale, so I would be happy to drop the price quite a bit for anyone who views the car before or during this weekend. Thanks! Seller comment Wednesday, 1 April 2026 She's beautiful. Best of luck with the sale. barnettk (101 • 10:21 pm, Thu, 2 Apr )Thank you! It is a wonderful car and like nothing else I've owned. I appreciate your kind words. maz5miata (12 • Thursday, 2 April 2026 )UPDATE: Have added 3 months of rego to the car (now expires in July), and reduced the buy now price some more. Cheers Seller comment Thursday, 16 April 2026 Would it handle a road trip to Christchurch tony41 (158 • 9:33 pm, Fri, 17 Apr )For sure. I drove it to Auckland and back for the Brit and Euro car show not long ago :) maz5miata (12 • Friday, 17 April 2026 )Fuel ⛽️ economy please flassh (583 • 4:35 pm, Sun, 3 May )Depends on your driving habits, and speed. I would say about 10-12 L/100km maz5miata (12 • Sunday, 3 May 2026 )Cheap as hell, mint car berry_11 (70 • 8:42 pm, Sun, 3 May )Thank you! maz5miata (12 • Sunday, 3 May 2026 )Does this have alloy body panels? Try a magnet? nmn100 (314 • 10:12 pm, Fri, 22 May )Just steel body panels, not aluminium maz5miata (12 • Friday, 22 May 2026 )Interesting, my cousin has one ,x300 lwb alloy body panels, thought yours would be the same.Same year, same color, English import. nmn100 (314 • 11:16 pm, Fri, 22 May )Interesting, that's not something I've heard of. Magnet definitely sticks to all my panels, even the rear doors which are obviously longer on a LWB maz5miata (12 • Friday, 22 May 2026 )Funny, I thought they're all alloy, same as the next two door xk8 with the sealed engine and gearbox. Wonders will never cease 🙏 nmn100 (314 • 11:25 pm, Fri, 22 May )As far as I know the first XJ generation with alloy construction is the X350 :) all great cars either way maz5miata (12 • Friday, 22 May 2026 )Yes you're right, I'm a muddled ol fart. nmn100 (314 • 11:28 pm, Fri, 22 May )
