2013 Mazda CX-5 AWD/Skyactiv
Description
Looking for a Mazda CX-5? This 2013 AWD SUV could be a solid option. We purchased it new in Sydney in early 2014 for my partner to use after our son was born, and then we brought it back to New Zealand with us when we moved back home in 2015.
While technically I’m the first New Zealand owner, it’s only been me and my kids mum that has owned it since we drove it off the lot 12 years ago, and it's been an extremely dependable vehicle that's handled everything I've needed it to do, mostly driving children around the city, and carting DJ gear around. I added an after market tow bar in 2022, and that’s come in very handy. You’ll note there’s some scratches and wear and tear on some of the plastic parts, which is to be expected when packing things in and out. It’s lived outside for most of its life so the paint work could do with touching up in a few spots.
It has the 2.5-litre Skyactiv engine paired with an auto transmission, which delivers decent performance while still being relatively fuel efficient for its size. The AWD system gives you that extra confidence in wet conditions or on unsealed roads, making it a good all-rounder. I was a big fan of the cruise control feature on long trips.
Inside, there's a practical 5-seater layout with plenty of space for passengers and gear in the boot. It comes fitted with a tow bar and reversing camera, which are both genuinely useful additions.
Mechanically, it's in good working order and has proven to be reliable over the years. It's a straightforward, honest SUV that's ready to keep going.
The entertainment centre includes FM/AM radio, CD, Bluetooth, and USB input and served us well. This unit does not have a GPS/maps capability. The handsfree works well.
