1937 Morris Other 8
Background check
This vehicle has been de-registered in the past and then registered again. The registration may have expired because the licence was not kept current or it may have been in an accident and written off by an insurance company.
Description
1937 Morris 8 – Running/Driving Project Car – Classic Vintage Vehicle
1937 Morris 8 fitted with a 1939 engine. A neat old classic with plenty of character and a good base for someone wanting a vintage project.
The car runs and drives and has been used around rural roads and private properties in recent years, however it is currently unregistered. Brakes, steering and suspension were overhauled a few years ago.
Interior has previously been refurbished and presents tidy for its age. Body has been resprayed at some point and is also relatively tidy overall, but like any nearly 90-year-old vehicle it will still need further work and attention.
Fuel tank is rusted out so it is currently running from a temporary jerry can setup. Battery is currently flat and may need replacing, although I will try to have it running for anyone wanting to view it.
Would suit someone with the passion, time and ability to restore or preserve an honest old classic, or just do as we did and enjoy it as is (just not on public roads!).
Vehicle is currently garaged at Lang's Beach, Northland.
Given the age and nature of the vehicle, viewing is strongly recommended before purchase. It should be capable of driving short distances, but transport by trailer is recommended.
Questions & Answers
Is this unregistered and still on hold, or deregistered? u2me2u (2073 • 6:13 pm, Mon, 18 May )Deregistered richv65 (143 • Monday, 18 May 2026 )Do you have any paper work or ownership papers for the car, and are the number plates the old ones. Thanks. dickdanger (122 • 8:14 am, Wed, 20 May )Yes, have ownership papers. Plates are from when the car was registered in the 90s. From my understanding the car was in a museum for many years in the 90s and 2000s which is why/when the rego lapsed. I’ll dig up some further info during the week and update the listing. Thanks richv65 (143 • Wednesday, 20 May 2026 )Having a series E motor does it also have a 4 speed box warryford (1 • 8:41 am, Tue, 26 May )It has a 3 speed (+reverse). richv65 (143 • Tuesday, 26 May 2026 )Further information on history: Car was purchased in November 2011 from Mike Johnson (Mike J Trading, Hunterville), with no WOF or Rego. Mike's advert at the time: 1937 Morris An older restoration. Very tidy. All the hard work done. Needs minor work, runs well. Seller comment Wednesday, 27 May 2026 We were told at the time that the motor was from a 1939 model, but this is not verified. We were also told the car had been sitting in a museum for some years, hence the rego lapsing. I recall being told it was in Pahiatua, but I'm unable to find a record of such museum. May have been a private collection. Seller comment Wednesday, 27 May 2026 Details from the Manufacturers plate: Type: M8 Car No: SI/E 124115 Engine No: 123082 Engine that is in the car has 15549 debossed on top of the head. I'm unable to find a serial number. Seller comment Wednesday, 27 May 2026 Are the photo,s taken recently. Is there any rust in chassis or body. Thanks. dickdanger (122 • 7:27 pm, Thu, 28 May )All photos were taken on 9th may 2026. No structural or body rust that I am aware of, just a couple of brackets etc on the underside that could do with a tidy up but body and chassis look tidy. richv65 (143 • Thursday, 28 May 2026 )
