1976 Nissan Fairlady Datsun 280Z S30
Background check
Description
1976 Datsun 280Z S30 LHD
The 280Z shares the same timeless fastback shape as the 240Z and 260Z (S30) but sold in the US with a larger 2.8L (L28) motor
This is a project car, will NOT be sold with a WOF or rego
I purchased when I was living in the UK 10 years ago as a project originally from California. It had an MOT and UK plates, and I shipped it back in 2018. It was flagged for rust repairs by NZ customs. This consisted of a 200 x 100mm square cut out of the floor and a few small holes in the sills which were welded with new metal. If the new owner would like to go down the route of compliance then I would suspect some rework would be required. I have the import docs / landing number. I also have separate plates with rego on hold and VIN tags from a later model Fairlady.
In my 10-year ownership I have completed:
- Removed fuel injection and replaced with triple Weber 45 carbs, re jetted. Sounds great. The car runs but currently needs a tune and will be going into the mechanic mid-January.
- Exhaust headers, new 2.5" through exhaust with Varex muffler with remote butterflies
- New bottom end bearings, pistons rings, reconditioned head, gaskets all round replaced <1000km ago.
- Reconditioned brakes and both brake and clutch master cylinders
- Front lowering springs, all new poly bushes on front
- Fibre glassed arches, I have DIY wrapped in Nardo Grey, with the intention to panel and paint. The wrap is not mint, the paint color is primer underneath, original colour was blue.
- New carpets, head liner, seats in great condition. All gauges work, cracks in dash.
I have tons of photos to show the body under the wrap is very solid. The car is a 50-years old, it has a couple of small dings and the interior is by no means concourse and the price reflects this.
Genuine reason for sale as I have found one of my dream cars in which I am downsizing my fleet.

A few options for potential buyers, and the price reflects this. Seller comment Friday, 26 December 2025 LHD…… bugger! madmax86 (74 • 1:02 pm, Fri, 26 Dec )Cheers. Like I mentioned above, if people re really concerned about a left hooker, I can put the buyer in touch with a 260Z RHD with rego on hold for less than 10k that could make one great car out of 2.
