1979 Triumph Other 2500 S MAN OD
Background check
Description
I bought this car with the intention of doing a NZ tour early next year, so paid good money for the right car. ( $11500). Upon inspection, I found the clutch was worn , and it had a bothersome diff whine at motorway speeds. The overdrive was not going and the clock was dead. The car has had an outside and door-Jamb repaint supposedly some 20 years ago, and is in nice condition. There was some pitting in the front of the boot wheel well which I have had repaired in steel. (It still has a Dunlop Aquajet in the spare.) It has never had a radio, and sold to me as a three-owner car with 71,700 km . Being a 5 digit speedo I have my doubts but check out CARJAM and make your own mind up. Compression Test showed all 6 at 155-165psi Since purchase I have done everything I can think of to make this the most reliable unit. I kinda went overboard but I hate it when corners are cut do did what I could regardless of cost New Clutch Kit Thrust Bearing Thrust Blocks Flywheel and clutch balanced. Front Gearbox seal Engine Rear Main Seal Rear Gearbox Cross Member bushes, and Gearbox Mount New Gearbox Oil New Crownwheel and Pinion (ex UK) Full set of Diff bearings and seals Assembly by Diffs R Us Second Hand Clock (working) New Windscreen and New Rubber 123 Ignition electronic distributor New HT Leads Electronic Fuel Pump and Regulator New (correct) Carb bowl, and needle valves New (Correct) Jet New Exhaust fitting kit New Spin on oil filter adapter Oil change and Filter All Gauges serviced by Smiths Repair to wheel well ALL UP COSTS APPROX $6500 The car now performs beautifully. The engine is silky smooth and the gearbox performs as it should. Synchros are great and OD acts fast. The interior is fantastic. Seats have no rips, are firm, and I have renovated the woodwork which now looks fantastic. Benefit from my hard work I had no intention of selling, but a car I have been looking for for nearly a year came available, and I could not stop myself from owning it.

This car is listed elsewhere so may be withdrawn if sold Seller comment Friday, 28 November 2025 Hi, what condition is the carpet under the rubber mats. Could you post photos please. Cheers. olley1 (139 • 2:11 pm, Fri, 28 Nov )Yes sure. The drivers side has a 25mm wear patch and left rear has similar. I dont think its wear as the rest is really nice. I think they have spilt something and used some chemical which has damaged the pile. If you text me I will send you some clear photos aston2 (504 • Friday, 28 November 2025 )Hi i see on the rego it is a tc and not an s model can you please confirm thank you don76 (1352 • 4:12 pm, Fri, 28 Nov )Hi. Bot sure why rego says TC. I can only assume a compliance mistake when it was first registered It has: S dash S gauges S steering wheel S 14” alloys S sway bar S larger HS6 carburettors S Clock Rear window demister S grille S rear badge S rear pillar covers and badge I cant see anyone going to all that trouble from a TC Im pretty sure the rego has been stated wrongly aston2 (504 • Friday, 28 November 2025 )And it was sold to me by a dealer as 2.5 S Seller comment Friday, 28 November 2025 Further to this I have been online. The standard Triumph TC was manufactured in Nelson until April 1978 No standard TCs built after this date They only built the “Twin gCarb S” afterwards with 600 units built until the last one rolled out in March 79 Being Twin Carb but in S spec, they often carried on being registered as TC to designate their difference from the PI Even the S models were technically a TC. But being one if the last to Be registered here it is an S I hope this helps Seller comment Friday, 28 November 2025 Lovely car. I have seen people go to those lengths to 'build' an S, but given it was regd here in April'79 it does seem unlikely. I had also always thought the last TCs were built up here in '78. The car looks to be missing the articulated RH wiper and the so-called emissions junk, but the latter has probsbly just been removed, as indeed is happening to my '79 S right at this moment. Good luck! blank_family (259 • 5:18 pm, Fri, 28 Nov )I removed the emission junk. If any one wants it its in a box. They are welcome.
