1966 Triumph Other Herald
Background check
This vehicle has been de-registered in the past and then registered again. The registration may have expired because the licence was not kept current or it may have been in an accident and written off by an insurance company.
Description
When we got this car, it had already been fitted with front disc brakes and it had a 12/50 engine. It was pulled apart over a 5 year period, but regretfully the tub was not taken off the chassis. The chassis and underside has been painted with Por15, but would have been an easier nicer job if it was removed.
Body was stripped back to bare metal, prepped and repainted, with a lacquer, but for the life of me I always had paint issues where rust bleed would come through. To this day it still baffles me if it was a prep issue, or paint issue….
Vehicle had to be complied due to lapsed rego, so that crappy experience has been done which cost us an additional $3500.
Upgraded seat belt anchor points and new belts installed.
Car has now been on the road for 2.5 years being used as a daily driver for over a year.
It is a great head turner and a fun car to drive.
Initially it was planned to have a soft top fitted, but time started to run out towards the end of the rebuild and a hasty decision was made to put the original hard top back on. Again this was going to be temporary and not a great deal of time was spent on the original top which is not in great condition. During the rebuild process the following new items were installed: Front/Rear Window rubbers Door Rubbers Side window seals Front Discs Front Pads Rear Drums Rear Shoes Front Trunions Rear Trunion bushes All universal joints Front wheel bearings Brake master/slave cylinders Clutch Master/slave cylinders Brake hoses front/rear Brake pipe Suspension bushes Gearbox mount Rear taillights Headlights Boot handle Boot lid seal Bonnet seal Carpet set Fuel pump Tie rod ends Steering rack rebuild Rear spring lowering block Rear fiberglass bumper Alloy wheels Gear box ball joint bush kit A 1360 Dashboard and wiring loom installed.
The upholstery has not been done and all seats are pretty buggered, has had custom seat covers on it which are a little faded as it has been driven around a bit with the hard top off.
Questions & Answers
Other known issues are: 100km speed limit – any faster and the engine starts to miss fire. I suspect fuel issue, maybe float level, or even possibly fuel filter needs replacing? The left rear wheel must have a slightly bent half shaft as the drum has a slight wobble when the wheel is turning and this causes a vibration at about 80kms. Some rust coming through the lower door panels and on the valance.
