Description

Triumph Vitesse 2 litre Mk2 factory Convertible.

Yep the real McCoy... a rare beast in NZ with only about 8 others in the country.

The Mk2 is blessed with the 104bhp engine and factory upgraded rotoflex rear suspension, so doesn't suffer the problems of all the other Herald and Vitesse suspension issues, thus always considered 'the best model to have'.

Very well presented and a joy to drive. I strongly recommend viewing so you can see this yourself. Beware, you're likely fall in love with her!

THE NITTY GRITTY:

Definitly not perfect but good, very good.

She had a full bare chassis up rebuild then imported in 2013 by the previous NZ owner.

  • Chassis well presented in black powder coat.
  • Suspension poly bushes all round.
  • Full Stainless exhaust.
  • Good 4 speed gearbox (non-overdrive).
  • Excellent Convertible hood
  • Drives straight, true, handles & stops well. A proper tune up of the engine would do wonders though starts easily and runs well. Lumpy when cold but smooths out nicely once warm. My main mechanical criticism is the diff is a bit clunky.
  • Paint work is largely excellent. There are some blemishes. Under the front grill, between the overriders, the thin metal section there is a bit poor though nothing of any concern would be good to improve. I don't like the grey headlight panels. I planned to paint them body colour but no time.
  • Structural sound / solid. Chassis & body have had rust repairs in the past but clearly now very solid

MY HONEST THOUGHTS as a Triumph enthusiast through & through: If you want a basically sound car that you can enjoy and has a 'wow that's gorgeous' factor, this is the car for you. If you're in to originally (which I am, a little obsessively so) and want an absolutely perfect car in every way then this would not be your first choice.

*VIEWING in GOVERNORS BAY, just 22 MINS FROM CHRISTCHURCH CITY CENTRE.

Genuine reason for sale - I've got a couple more in project form. I don't need 3!

Mileage is in miles (not KM). I suspect she's done 108,000 miles

Questions & Answers

  • Beautiful. acquaman1 (19) • 6:55 pm, Thu, 12 Mar Thank you, she is indeed. She gets a lot of attention. It's common to see people taking photos when parked up at the supermarket, etc. Somebody will be a very new owner. Cheers, Matt. adventurematt (916) • Thursday, 12 March 2026
  • Hi, lovely car, how many rpm at 100kph please. oppositelock (66) • 5:25 pm, Mon, 16 Mar I have to say I've never really noticed what the revs are at 100kph. Where I live the roads around Lyttelton Harbour have winding corners (proper fun drivers roads!) and then you're in to the city. However I think I noticed I was on about 4,000rpm at 110kph on the one straight the other day. I tend to keep my eyes on the road & listen the engine rather than thinking about what the rev counter is on. FOR REFERENCE IT'S BEST TO EMAIL OR PH0NE ME FOR GENUINE QUERIES. Thanks & cheers, Matt. adventurematt (916) • Monday, 16 March 2026
  • Beautiful car! g4cube (27) • 8:49 pm, Sun, 22 Mar Thanks Jason, yes she is. Whoever restored her in the UK knew how to paint. Given how rare these are in NZ, how smart she looks and how well she drives, I'm surprised somebody hasn't snapped her up yet. Cheers, Matt. adventurematt (916) • Sunday, 22 March 2026
  • Hi Matt, it’s a lovely looking car. And being a true factory convertible, latest version – very rare. I’m sure the new owner will have some fun. Inspires me to keep on working away on my Vitesse. g4cube (27) • 4:46 pm, Wed, 25 Mar I bought this to keep me entertained while I carried on with my Mk2 project that I've been working on for the past 10 years. I've been concerned I might have 'out grown' driving a Triumph having not had one on the road for a number of years. This one however has shown me my fears were unfounded - Wow I enjoy it! Life is random, after Xmas I picked up yet another Mk2 & parts that'll help fast track my project. But, basic maths, 3 car garage and 5 cars doesn't work. Something sadly needs go 😥 adventurematt (916) • Wednesday, 25 March 2026
