1997 TVR Other Chimaera
Background check
This vehicle was imported into New Zealand with obvious damage or deterioration. This alert will not appear if the vehicle had superficial dents to some of its body panels.
Description
I have for sale a 1997 TVR Chimaera that I have owned since about 2011, and I have spent a lot of time and money on it to make it what I is today.
This car was imported from Japan, and is completely rust free. The chassis is like new. It came to New Zealand in damaged condition, and it was professionally repaired in 2012, certified and used on the road since. As part of the repair damage, the front A arms were replaced with aftermarket A arms which are subject to a separate certification. Attached are photos of the chassis showing the rebuild works.
It has the TVR optional upgrades such as:
- power steering
- all leather
- roll bar
- air-conditioning (although not connected currently due to supercharger installation).
During my ownership I have had the power steering rack fully reconditioned. The rear suspension has been reconditioned and new adjustable coil overs on the front.
In the last two years the car has had a full repaint in an original TVR colour known as TVR Paris Blue. The carpet and underlay has been replaced, and a rotrex centrifugal supercharger and intercooler installed. I have also replaced the brake and clutch master cylinders with new.
The supercharger makes a huge difference, with the supercharger / intercooler giving the car a further 100 hp over stock, and more power than the 5 litre naturally asperated Chimaera.
You can go to this site to get the information on the supercharger kit that has been installed in the car:
https://www.sc-power.co.uk/pages/sc-power-superchargers.html
The car has been fully certified for the supercharger installation, and works beautifully. I have done approximately 500km since the installation. The cost for the supercharger kit, add-ons and compliance was in the region of $15K.
I have the original wheels that also go with the car.
I have loved owning this car but I find I get more enjoyment out of working on vehicles rather than driving them. There is nothing more to be done on the TVR. I have a two car garage with four cars in it. I need the room.
