Description

1956 Volkswagen Split Screen Kombi .

88xxx original miles

Situated in Central Southland . I would help with organising transport within NZ for the successful new owner .

A much loved Kombi , 3 owners including myself .

It has taken many hours of consideration to sell my loved Billy the Bus but he is just not driven enough , time for him to go to another happy owner .

Full sympathetic restoration. All original parts that could be saved were reused including all original upholstery, door cards etc. New window rubbers throughout. Parcel shelf at the back . Totally original apart from a repaint which kept the Dove Blue colour. Very little rust was found in the bare metal respray, extremely rare in these vans.
Seatbelts have been professionally fitted . Original bench seats . It has always been garaged and the Battery connected to a trickle charger. Starts and drives great. Semaphores are still operational and the bus still rinse the original 6v electrical system.

Always a topic of conversation, so many memories and stories from elderly people . Originally purchased new by an Oamaru Mum who transported her children to school . 1990 saw Billy move to Nelson to a second owner who loved it for 25 years .

Billy the bus has been proudly displayed in Transport World Invercargill exhibition.

Production date December 1956 Chassis no 221674 Engine capacity 1192cc Compression ratio 6.66:1 Maximum brake horsepower 36@3700 RPM Gearbox 4 Speed Maximum and cruising speed 50 mph/80 kph
