Description

This 2016 VW T5 SWB DSG is the equivalent of a Multivan Hi-line and is a bit of a unicorn in this spec. Full brown leather interior, sunroof, dual-zone air conditioning, towbar, and electric seating middle & rear, it’s been an exceptional family vehicle for both daily driving and long-distance trips. The middle and rear seats are fully electric, including lumbar support, with the middle row offering genuine first-class comfort. Whether you’re a VW enthusiast or not, the interior always gets comments. I’m the second private owner from new (the other owners were dealerships). It has always been professionally serviced at correct intervals, with receipts available. Major maintenance including cam belt, water pump, rear brake pads and disc rotors completed five months ago. Extras below are not included in sale but happy to consider selling additionally:

  • Rhino Rack roof system - tradie. Can walk around or hang out up there at surf breaks.
  • Near-new Front Runner rear door ladder (Oct 2025) Full Transparency – Reason for Sale Since purchasing in 2020 @ 60,000km the van has consistently used some oil but more noticeable over the last 3 months. Only on long trips when under load, seemingly not around town. At 133,000km, with its service history, it shouldn’t! Recent investigation by our mechanic has confirmed it is loosing oil past the rings. It still drives well, and may continue to be reliable. We have not looked at realistic costs to recondition but hope that a new owner can do the work and enjoy this exceptional vehicle for years to come. We are gutted to part with Herman (the German) but we are a one-car family & downtime simply isn’t an option for us. Oil and filter due in 1000km and tires will be due all round around that time. Wheels curbed by my retired surgeon father in law. Amazing man in all other respects. This is reflected in the asking price and has been allowed for accordingly. Viewing welcomed. $17,000

Questions & Answers

  • Hi how much oil is it using in ltrs per tank of diesel. Has it had any other work done on Turbos/egr etc Do you have a report from garage I could view engcraftsmannz (53) • 1:07 pm, Sun, 8 Feb Last bigger trip was to Foxton Beach for 2 weeks circa 300km return and I added maybe 2/3L of oil to get back to high on return. It was at that junction I booked it back at the garage. Yes I have the brief report happy to share with you. Send me a text and I’ll take a photo when home. No work done on turbo or egr during my ownership. Did have the one recall done at VW Gazley around a year ago. Can’t recall what that was though and was covered by VW. Think it was emissions software update. anyah (139) • Sunday, 8 February 2026
  • How many seats are there? It says 8 in listing but only see 7. gibbygirl29 (124) • 12:21 pm, Thu, 12 Feb You are correct that the listing details are wrong. They must have propagated from the model when loading. It is actually 6 seats. There is no middle seat in the back. Thanks Johnny anyah (139) • Thursday, 12 February 2026
  • Hello, i have same engine in Multivan. Symptoms you are describing and mileage of the car is matching my experience. Higher oil usage at 130K than engine failed at 155K which is common with this engines. Ended up importing rebuild engine from Europe $14K still much chipper than doing it in NZ. kamil1979 (632) • 4:27 pm, Fri, 13 Feb Thanks for posting that. Such a bugger. VW should hang their heads in shame:-) Rest of the van is so good. I hope it’s a doable project for someone who can reap the benefits. anyah (139) • Friday, 13 February 2026
