TRIUMPH TRIDENT 1973 (UK) T150V POSTER - A2 SIZE - NEW
Description
This poster is of the 'Home & General Export' 1973 Trident, the T150V version. In 1971 in the USA the Trident was offered with an optional 5 speed gearbox but its believed only the required 200 odd were sold that year to allow the racing T150 fitted with 5 speed gearboxs to be homologated for the F750 racing for the Daytona 200 and the other road races on the AMA Grand Series.
In the USA the worlds first Superbike with sister BSA Rocket 3 machine, were not popular due to their slab sided and heavy look so much so that Triumph designed a beauty kit for dealers to fit that consisted of a new teardrop tank with trim, plus mufflers, decals etc. Originally launched in August 68 in the USA approx 3,943 were built while in 1970 only 2879 were produced. The factory were stamping the 1969 models fitted with the beauty kit as T150T models, for sale as 1970 models.
In NZ a small number of the early models were bought in by W White but after circa 1970 Colemans became the sole BSA-Triumph Distributors for New Zealand. This enable a greater number of machines to be imported and by 1972 Tridents started to become popular. A batch of T150T models were sent over, a number of the 1972 models and in 1973 the front disc brake T150V had arrived. Rod Coleman said to me, the demand for the Tridents was so strong, we just could never get enough of them.
