BMW M3GTR
Description
BMW M3 GTR
The original BMW M3 GTR was developed by BMW Motorsport for the American Le Mans Series in 2001. This replica was built in Auckland with the same body style and similar livery as the original cars that ran at the Nurburgring. It is fitted with a 5 litre M5 V8 engine modified to produce approximately 450HP. The original cars ran a very special flat crank 4 litre V8 reported to produce something in excess of 500 HP. I ran the car in the Open Class of the BMW Race Driver Series and had many years of really enjoyable racing. I haven't raced it for a couple of years but now's the time to let someone else enjoy it.
The car has been built retaining the original front cross member and diff carrier but has had purpose-built suspension arms fitted front and back to enable its low and wide stance. The front and rear guards, front splitter, rear bumper and bonnet have all had moulds made to make them all in fiberglass (and the car will sell with these). The doors are also fiberglass from a manufacturer in the US. Plastic windows all around except of course the windscreen. The S62 M5 engine has very recently been rebuilt including a brand-new block and crankshaft – it is dry sumped and tuned for 98 Octane gas. The quad cams are a special Dinan profile, and it is producing approx. 450 HP. The car is fitted with an Aims dash and an after-market engine computer. The engine is fitted with a purpose-built dry sump and pump from the US with oil tank etc located in the boot. Air jacks are fitted, and a specially made gas tank sits under where the rear seat would have been. The gearbox is a BMW 6 speed recently rebuilt by Kayne Barrie. The LSD is also a Kayne Barrie modified and built unit. The brakes are BMW rotors on the front and rear with Porche 6 pot calipers front and Willwood calipers on the rear. The car comes with 3 sets of 18” wheels and plenty of spares. It’s a fast car and fun to drive.
