1970 MGB GT with race history
Description
This was the poster car for the Leisuretime Spa and Pool covers (now ERC) race series when owned by the series sponsor. I've known it for 30 years.
I bought the car and a trailer off him when he hung up his helmet as I really wanted the trailer so the car was on-sold and passed through a couple of owners, before ending in the estate of the next sponsor - AES. Off the road since 2011 but registration is on hold. Car Jam no longer lists the mileage but speedo says 65,000.
It wouldn't take a lot to get on back on the road. Comes with two spare alloy wheels and 4 original Rostyle wheels.
Currently registered RHQ 234. The personalised plate 7TBGT is for sale separately if required.
Half cage, MSNZ logbook. Raced once by 'Racing Ray' Williams! Believed a stage 1 cylinder head fitted, K & N air filters, high torque starter motor, electronic ignition but otherwise the car is standard, with aluminium bonnet and overdrive.
Some work done over the last few years. Newish battery, new fuel pump and filter, brakes, clutch slave and silencer - though there is a small exhaust leak in the pipe - easily accessible. New rubber seat diaphragms. Carbs were stripped and cleaned last year and a light spray paint as vinyl stickers had made a mess of the paintwork.
Interior is a bit scruffy and a previous owner fitted an aftermarket temp gauge which needs to be refitted. No oil leaks but the engine bay could do with a tidy up.
Currently, only the original seatbelts fitted.
Two previous sales have fallen through (1 to AUS, 1 to the south island) due to shipping issues.
Starts and runs well, drives well - but a bit rorty! I raced it a couple of times and it handles well.
The ERC race series would welcome it back and an ideal entry level car and not too much work to make it road legal again.
I can trailer it (by arrangement) if required. North Shore (Birkenhead) based. It does need some recommissioning as unused regularly for so long.
Space required - it has to go. See my other car listing.
