1977 Ford Pinto (LHD American Car)

1977 car stripped and partially restored. I have too many projects so looking to see if any interest in this classic.

Great project for a someone wanting a car that there are probably only a small handful in NZ. I initially bought the motor (American version of the Cologne 2.8L V6) and was offered the car that it came from when I picked up the engine. Old gentleman had brought the car into NZ, driven it for a few years, then stripped it for restoration. He unfortunately passed away before finishing and car has been stored for many years. The rego has lapsed but car could probably be resurrected as sufficient information is available to have it revinned – original NZ plates etc.

Plates suggest it was first registered in NZ around 1985.

The body is in pretty good nick though some surface rust on many panels. Only major rust is in the rear hatch door frame, but easily repairable. The main floors, engine bay and underbody structure are all good – no structural issues apparent.

I would sell it with or without the motor, as still keen to retain the naturally aspirated engine for my other car projects. All parts except the steering rack appear to be there and were gathered up – have searched and found that the rack is able to be sourced from the USA. All the glass and interior panels are there.

Some easy repairs will be needed some of the upholstery, but generally in reasonable condition. All of the front suspension is dismantled, some of which has been restored. The car has the 2.8L Cologne V6 and a Ford C3 automatic transmission. The engine may have had work done – need to take sump off to check.

Viewing is strongly recommended, though I am not always available to show it to prospective buyers, as it is in the garage at my batch in Turangi.
