Nestled in the charming village of Awakino, very close to the scenic Awakino River and just a short drive from the wonderful West Coast surf and fishing beaches, this property offers an escape within easy reach of the waves.
We bought this house in around 2005, and carried out a renovation, adding modern bathrooms and kitchen.
Since then it was initially used as our family home, and later for many years as a holiday house / holiday rental business with pretty decent income.
A buyer could have the best of both worlds, use the property to live in fulltime, or keep as a holiday house with extra rental income when you are not using it.
There is a website already running, ( https://oldpostofficeawakino.co.nz/) and a reliable cleaner locally should you not want to do this work yourself.
The asking price includes furniture and fittings so there could be a seamless transition for the holiday rental business if desired by the buyer.
Short drive to west coast surf beaches or walk to the Awakino River. Awakino Hotel is just 50m away with family friendly outdoor beer garden, great food, packed with character and oozing good old fashioned country pub hospitality.
The small town of Mokau is just a few minutes' drive with cafes, a great local butcher, (his hand made sausages, bacon and aged beef are sublime) community market, museum, police and ambulance stations etc.
Mokau has a lovely small town primary school serviced by a school bus.
The house is perfect for a large family holiday with a bunk room for younger family members.
Situated on the Awakino River one hour north of New Plymouth, two hours south of Hamilton and three-and-a-half hours from Auckland it's a haven from city stress and strain. The local area has classic west coast beaches, fishing, hunting, tramping, a golf course and is world famous in New Zealand for its whitebait.
Take a stroll on the wide open black sand beaches, picturesque with Mt Egmont in the background on a clear day. Try your hand at fishing at either the Mokau or Awakino river mouths, or snapper and gurnard from the beach. There's also great kite or kontiki fishing, with massive snapper landed for those who know where to go....
The famous White Cliffs tramp is only a short drive away, or go for a walk to see the Three Sisters rock formations at low tide. Good surfing is available all down the coast towards New Plymouth.
