1973 Volkswagen Kombi Campervan
Background check
Description
If you’ve been looking for a Kombi that’s been loved, sorted, and isn’t a rusted-out “project” in disguise – this is it. This pop-top is a genuine Westfalia that’s ready to go for summer road trips, beach overnighters and long weekends.
Re-sprayed and had its 1600cc engine reconditioned by the previous owners around 2016 we understand. We’ve done low mileage and kept it garaged since acquiring it in 2022.
The front cab was completely reconditioned during lockdown, with new leather seats imported from the UK, new carpets, kickboards and stereo. Its fresh up front, while still retaining the charm of a ’73 VW.
We’ve had it religiously maintained and serviced by the good sorts at Qualitat in Auckland, and it has been a joy to drive throughout. We just don’t have time to drive it regularly now, so it needs to find a new home.
- Respray and reconditioned engine around 2016 (sorry, we don’t have receipts)
- Stored under cover by previous owners and has been garaged since 2022
- Cab fully refreshed in 2022/23 – brand new leather seats, carpets, kickboards & stereo
- Original Westfalia with rock ’n’ roll bed, sink, gas cooker, fridge and cabinetry.
- Has a fresh water tank and portable toilet - It was blue stickered, but we’ve never bothered going for a fixed toilet or grey water set-up needed for the green sticker.
Extras included:
- Extendable rear awning – imported from German manufacturers, it provides a double bed in the back, so gives you extra covered space at camp.
- Side awning – big modern drive away side awning.
- Portable internal toilet
- We’ve removed it to allow for the rear awning, but still have the original head banger cabinet for the rear, so you can make your own choices about going right back to the full original Westfalia interior or continuing to use as is with the brilliant rear awning.
It’s not a museum piece you’re scared to drive – it’s a tidy, honest T2 classic in great condition for its age that you can actually enjoy from day one.

Thanks so much, looks like a game changer for our setup. Thanks again and hope your Kombi finds a new home. resol (644 • 2:39 pm, Wed, 17 Dec )All good = they are amazing, as it means you don’t need to put down the rock-n-roll bed. Just be aware, I’m 5’10 and it’s only just long enough. If you’re taller, you may be curling up in the back ;) breedo (34 • Wednesday, 17 December 2025 )Latest service and new WOF completed Friday/Monday by Qualitat… Now WOFed to January 2027 Seller comment Tuesday, 23 December 2025
