2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo - a sporty NZ new hatchback that's been a great commuter. This is the turbo model with the 1.6-litre engine paired with a 6-speed manual, which makes it an engaging drive without being too demanding around town.

The unique 3-door layout (1 door on the driver's side, 2 on the passenger side) gives it a distinctive look and practical access. It's compact enough for city parking but has useful space inside for a 4-seater.

It's been well looked after and is in good working order. The reversing camera is a handy feature that makes parking easier. Being NZ new, it has a clear local history, and while it's had a few owners before me, it's proven to be reliable and hasn't given me any trouble.
