Changes to Cat and Dog categories
We recently released our new Code of Animal Welfare to promote greater animal welfare for cats or dogs that are listed with us. We’ve been making a number of changes progressively to these categories to help sellers comply with the code. The next round of changes will be released at the end of August.
What's changing?
Cats and dogs sellers listing a litter will have to select either a single animal or a litter when they create the listing. They’ll also need to specify how many animals are in the litter (a maximum of eight is allowed), along with some other information like the animals’ DOB. To comply with the code dog sellers will need to enter the mother's microchip number if they're selling puppies less than 90 days old. This field isn't compulsory for dogs over 90 days, and is not available for cats.
These changes are all working towards promoting a higher standard of welfare for cats and dogs that are sold or rehomed on Trade Me.
We’ll also be changing some of the prices for listing single animals and setting a price point for the new litter option in the Cats and Dogs categories:
o Single cat $19, litter $49
o Single dog $29, litter $79
The new prices will come into effect from 25 August. It will remain free to list a cat or a dog for rehoming in the “to adopt” categories on the site.
