Daniel is one of our developers - not only does he help bring new features, he also compiles these web browsing and operating system stats for us to look over.

As we have reached the end of 2010, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how things have changed since the start of the year.

Internet Explorer is sitting comfortably out in front for Trade Me visitors: 36% look around using IE8, and 21% with IE7. Back in January, each had 29%.

Over the course of 2010, we saw IE6 continue its tumble into history. In January, 7% of people were using it, but at the end of the year only 2% were clinging on.

In the Firefox camp, 17% visited with version 3.6 in December. It wasn’t out at the start of 2010, but version 3.5 sat at 15% then.

Google’s Chrome browser has seen its usage double over the year, starting at 6% usage in January, and finishing off with 12% in December.

In the Operating Systems department, Windows 7 was just months old in January last year, with 7% of people choosing to be quick adopters. Come December however, 23% of Trade Me visitors had made the switch. Windows XP sits at 42% (down from 52% in January), and Windows Vista ended the year at 24% (down from 30%). Apple’s Mac OS X held steady, starting and ending the year on 9%.
