Keep safe online over Christmas/New Year's

Written by Robyn in General at 11:00am, Fri 17 Dec 2010

We’re all winding into the mad Christmas rush and plenty of people are searching for a great deal. Unfortunately this also includes the lowlifes of the internet - scammers and phishers – who often target this period to take advantage of people.

These nefarious characters ramp up their efforts at this time of year. We’re aware of several scam emails doing the rounds that target New Zealand businesses, including a couple that are nasty attempts to imitate our site and those of banks.

We’re keen for our members not to have their Christmas ruined by being conned out of their hard-earned cash or personal information. We work hard to keep our site safe 24x7, but it’s pretty important you also have your guard up.  More...

We’ve given Stores a facelift

Written by The Trade Me Team in General at 5:47pm, Thu 16 Dec 2010

Our Stores section now has a cleaner look and snazzier graphics. Sellers also get free Gallery on their Stores page, and over the next few months we’ll make store logos a bit bigger as well.

There’s also a new sidebar search and alphabet filters, so it’ll be easier to find individual stores.

Trade Me's 12 Days of Christmas

Written by Paul in General at 4:13pm, Fri 10 Dec 2010

If you haven't yet spotted Trade Me's 12 Days of Christmas, you should check it out. It's an idea to help spread the Christmas cheer, have a bit of fun, and do a little something to help with the earthquake rebuilding effort down in Canterbury.

It involves a bunch of great companies from around the country each donating something cool for 12 special one-day, $1 reserve auctions running from 9-20 December. Just like the old Twelve Days of Christmas carol, each day the package up for grabs will increase by one item.

By Day 12, people will be bidding for a monstrous collection of goodies, but it is highly unlikely that there will be any drummers drumming, pipers piping or hens of any nationality.  More...

Pike River tragedy

Written by The Trade Me team in General at 12:08pm, Wed 1 Dec 2010

Just a quick note from us about the Pike River coal mine tragedy. Our thoughts are with the families dealing with the awful events on the West Coast.

We are doing a couple of things to help out where we can. You should see banners encouraging donations to the Pike River Miners' Relief Trust across the site. Several Trade Me members are also running Pike River auctions with proceeds heading the way of the Trust, so we will be helping them out with fees and so on where appropriate too.

Trade Me has also made a donation to the Trust - and we'd encourage you to do the same. As well as the Trust's main site, there is also an official Facebook page to visit. More...

Quick relist issue this morning

Written by Shona in General at 11:38am, Mon 29 Nov 2010

We just wanted to let you know that we experienced a technical glitch this morning with our quick relist option for general auctions. A fee of $14 was showing (but was not charged) when ‘quick relist’ was selected. This has been fixed and the correct fees will now display.

We’re sorry for any hassles this may have caused.
