New restrictions on selling ladders

Written by James & Paul in General and Top Seller at 12:05pm, Thu 31 May 2012

You may be aware of a recent issue where a ladder purchased from a seller on Trade Me collapsed, causing the buyer a serious leg injury.

After an investigation by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the ladder was found to have failed to meet the safety standard AS/NZS 1892.1:1996. This is currently a voluntary standard.

We are concerned there may be other ladders being sold that do not meet the standard, so we are introducing a new requirement that only new ladders that comply with this standard can be listed. This change will take effect from 1 July 2012, giving members a month to get ladders they have in stock tested to the standard.  More...

Queens Birthday is coming up this Monday, so we wanted to let you know there will be a delay with payments if you use phone or internet banking to top up your Trade Me account. If your payment is made after 8pm on Friday 1 June, it will not arrive in your Trade Me account until Wednesday 6 June.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused, but this is how the banks roll on Public Holidays. We hope you all have a safe and happy long weekend.

Trade Me tickled pink for Pink Shirt Day

Written by Cat & Jeff in General at 8:14am, Fri 18 May 2012

You may have noticed Kevin the Kiwi sporting a pink shirt today – he’s celebrating Pink Shirt Day, an annual event celebrated throughout New Zealand and around the world.

Pink Shirt Day is aimed at raising awareness about the power to prevent bullying. Its goal is to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting the development of positive social relationships.

The event began in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2007 when a group of students stood up to defend a kid who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The students took a stand by all wearing pink shirts to show solidarity, handing out pink shirts for their classmates to wear.  More...

Trade Me welcomes students for WorkChoice Day 2012

Written by The Trade Me Jobs Team in General and Jobs at 5:09pm, Wed 16 May 2012

As a sponsor of Workchoice Day 2012, the Trade Me Jobs team played host to a vibrant bunch of Year 12 students this week, providing some behind the scenes insight into the variety of jobs that exist across our business.

Workchoice Day is held annually around New Zealand, providing students with first-hand experiences in an area of work that they are interested in. This year, over 200 organisations welcomed 4,500 students from 110 schools nationwide as part of the initiative. As the good people at Workchoice Day say: “It takes a village to educate a child and with a little help from your company a student can go a long way.”

We welcomed students from Samuel Marsden Collegiate, Aotea College and Upper Hutt College at our Wellington headquarters, and from Rangitoto College and St Cuthbert’s College in Auckland. A big thanks to the staff who gave presentations, and all the best to the students with their studies. Who knows, perhaps some of them will join us at Trade Me down the track!
