Privacy policy changes come into effect today
Last month we gave you a heads up about a couple of changes to our Privacy policy which come into effect today.
Google Customer Match
The first change allows Trade Me to use a Google Adwords product called Google Customer Match.
You may recall our site announcement last year updating you on a new type of customised advertising we deliver via our data management platform. We have since refined and increased our work in this area, and began using the Google DoubleClick Data Platform in May.
From today, we’ll be use Google Customer Match to show you ads that are specific to your interests or on-site behaviour, or to avoid showing you ads that aren’t relevant to you. You’ll see these ads when you use products like Google Search, YouTube and Gmail. Throughout our use of these products and services, we don’t share your personal information. However, we’ve made this update as we care about your privacy and are committed to being transparent with how your information is used.
If this isn’t your cup of tea, you can opt out of Trade Me using your information to deliver you customised advertising via Google and Krux (a data management platform we use). You can find more detailed information on advertising options on our help page.
Remarketing
Trade Me has used remarketing to serve you with relevant ads after you leave our website for a few years now. This means that when you do things like create listings, add things to your Watchlist or search for items, we place a cookie or pixel on your browser or device, which allows us to show you ads which we think are relevant to your actions once you’ve left Trade Me.
Remarketing is a common practise these days, and there are a few different providers in the game, such as Google DoubleClick and Facebook. We haven’t changed the information we collect from you, or the purpose for which we use it. However, we’ve published a new Remarketing help page, to enable us to be flexible with which remarketing providers we use, but also ensure we’re being as transparent as possible.
If you have any questions about these changes, please drop us a line.
