Privacy Policy change coming into effect today
Two weeks ago we gave you a heads up about a minor change to our privacy policy. We’ve previously used the Google Display Network for remarketing, which is when we display Trade Me ads to you after you leave our site. Going forward we’ll also be using another service called DoubleClick. We’ve tweaked our policy at section 12.g to reflect this, so make sure you have a read of our updated policy as this change comes into effect today.
When you do things like browse around Trade Me, make purchases, create listings or add things to your Watchlist, we'll continue to place a cookie on your browser so that we can serve you with ads when you’re browsing other websites later. Section 12 of our policy sets out information on how we use cookies.
As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to drop us a line.
A tweak to our privacy policy
We wanted to let you know we’re making a minor change to our privacy policy to update the provider we use for remarketing, which is when we display Trade Me ads to you after you leave our site. When you do things like browse around Trade Me, make purchases, create listings or add things to your Watchlist, we place a cookie on your browser so that we can serve you with ads when you’re browsing other websites later.
We’ve previously used the Google Display Network to do this, but we’re keen to start using another service called DoubleClick instead. We’ll be tweaking our policy at section 12.g to reflect this. Section 12 of our policy sets out information on how we use cookies.
These changes come into effect on 7 July 2015. As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to drop us a line.
Site performance issues
Trade Me experienced intermittent performance problems over the weekend due to power outages and flooding affecting the links between our data centres, reducing our capacity over peak periods. We are also experiencing some email delays as we clear through a large backlog of outbound mail.
We’re really sorry for any inconvenience that this event has caused. We are continuing to work with local providers to get things back to normal, and adding extra capacity to reduce the chance of ongoing problems.
Payments issues RESOLVED
Earlier today we experienced an issue processing credit card payments – sorry about any pain this caused you.
We’ve now fixed this problem so you should be able to use your credit or debit card on-site again.
Site issue resolved
Earlier today we experienced an issue that caused Trade Me to be slow or unavailable for some members.
We’ve now resolved this issue and have extended all auctions due to close between 10.40 am and 11.00 am by 1 hour. Apologies for the inconvenience.
