Motors pricing changes on the way

Written by The Trade Me Motors team in General and Motors at 10:30am, Wed 25 Mar 2015

On 8 April we’re making some changes to the listing fees for selling vehicles on Trade Me.

If you are selling a vehicle via a classified, the listing fee for vehicles with an asking price of over $30,000 will increase from $79 to $99. Auction fees and all other classified listings under $30,000 will remain unchanged.

Over 600,000 people* a month visit Trade Me Motors to buy, sell, and research vehicles. Over the past 12 months we have invested in making it easier to sell a vehicle on Trade Me, and we believe the price change still reflects good value for money. More...

Changes to our Terms and Privacy Policy

Written by George & the Legal team in General at 11:00am, Thu 5 Mar 2015

In 2013 Parliament passed some changes to our consumer laws that affect Trade Me members, like declaring your ‘In Trade’ status, substantiating claims, and increased protection for members who buy via online auction. Today we’d like to chat about some upcoming changes to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Unfair contract terms
The provisions under the Fair Trading Act in relation to unfair contract terms come into effect on 17 March 2015. Unfair contract terms relate to contracts that businesses enter into with their members or customers where the member doesn’t have the opportunity to negotiate the terms, as they’re offered on a take it or leave it basis. You’ll see these all the time as a consumer – think of the contracts with your gym, internet provider, phone or electricity company.

From 17 March 2015, businesses will be required to ensure terms in their consumer contracts aren’t unfair. Businesses also have to ensure that their terms are transparent, accessible and easy to read. For more information on unfair contract terms, we recommend you check out the Commerce Commission’s guidelinesMore...

New feature: Motorweb Basic Report

Written by The Trade Me Motors team in General and Motors at 2:30pm, Thu 19 Feb 2015

We’re excited today to share a brand new feature for car sellers called a MotorWeb Basic Report.

A MotorWeb Basic Report displays key information about the vehicle you’re selling, including showing that the vehicle isn't stolen, doesn't have money owing, and isn't a damaged import.

Having a safe and trusted marketplace for buying and selling vehicles is hugely important to us, and we reckon this report will help to increase trust between buyers and sellers. Sellers can add a MotorWeb Basic Report for $9 and it will display at the top of their car listing until the vehicle is sold. It can also be added to an existing listing for $9 at any time. More...
