Get on top with a Super Feature
You can now promote your used cars, specialist cars, yachts and motorboats for sale by upgrading to a Super Feature. It doesn’t have magical powers, but it puts you at the top of all other listings (on rotation) for relevant searches, meaning more eyes on your listing. See the pretty screenshot below.
Here’s what else you need to know:
- It costs $79 (inc GST) for seven days, then $55 (inc GST) to renew for another seven days
- The price includes a Feature Combo (bold title, highlighted background etc.)
To make your listing a Super Feature, just select the option at the time of listing. If your listing is already on site, you can upgrade to a Super Feature through the ‘promote’ option on My Trade Me.

Scam warning and safe buying advice
It was Scam Awareness Week last week and we thought it would be timely to remind members about one scam attempt we’ve seen recently, and offer some tips to keep you safe.
These scammers know their game and have many tactics to try and get your hard-earned cash into their pockets. In the last couple of weeks, a new scam has reared its ugly head in New Zealand. It seeks to lure victims by combining the old age medium of newspaper advertising, with the new age technology of online phone calls via services like Skype (technically known as “voice over internet protocol” or VOIP).
It starts with a classified advertisement for a cheap vehicle popping up in one of the local newspapers around the country. Alongside a free-to-register email address (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo) is a local New Zealand phone number purchased by a scammer that actually connects overseas, not locally. They are doing this through VOIP technology and number portability, which is brilliant if you want cheap calls to your friend in London, but not so great when you think you're calling someone in NZ to buy a car. Changes to classified extensions
Since the dawn of time, extending classifieds on the site was a bit like unraveling spaghetti - each type of classified had its own set of rules, which was pretty confusing. So, as of today, there are some changes to general item and Motors classified extensions to make them more consistent:
1. Extensions are now fixed at 14 days.
2. Classifieds may only be extended in the final 72 hours before they expire.
3. The extension will apply from the original expiry date of the classified.
4. If you choose to promote your classified, you will be charged for this when you extend it.
And remember if your listing has expired, you can relist it for free (within 45 days of the end date).
New Christchurch Earthquake Support section live
As part of the relief effort, our team have been working hard to build a new Trade Me Earthquake Support Section dedicated to helping people out in the aftermath of Tuesday’s earthquake. This new section sets out several ways you can help those in need, and ways you can get help if you need it.
Since the earthquake, there have been heaps of members posting offers of housing and transport and all sorts of other things for earthquake victims. The new section lets people list and search labour, accommodation and transport. It also provides a place to list any lost and found pets. These categories are all free.
As well as links to some online resources around the earthquake, we have also included information for members if they want to volunteer to help out with the relief effort, or make a donation. More...
