The Christchurch earthquake
It has been a black day in Christchurch with the 6.3 magnitude quake that struck just before 1pm today wreaking havoc. It is a real kick in the guts for the city, and our thoughts are with all those who have been affected in some way today.
Over on the message boards, people are helping each other out with advice and information, and it is operating as a place to share experiences from a very tough day. You can post your thoughts in the dedicated Christchurch quake area. When events like this hit, the message boards can be a pretty humbling place to be.
As far as we can tell, a couple of other good places to keep an eye on for information are Environment Canterbury's www.canterburyearthquake.org.nz website and the Civil Defence website. More...
2010 Energywise Rally: Day #4 & Rainbow Bright
Team Rainbow Bright reporting in from the finish of the Energywise rally. We landed the short straw and the shortest drive, but potentially the most important (in our own minds). Sean and Nathan handed the keys over with us sitting in a solid 9th position overall for the drivers' comp so the pressure was well and truly on.
6.00am: Woke to a cool wet Rotorua morning, both of us wondering how not to get the car sideways on the wet grass en route to the start line.
7.00am: Car still there thanks to the huge guard dogs. Other teams checking over their cars. Yael and I are nervous. Two texts and a phone call already from the support team back at Trade Me all with the same message: “Don’t f*** it up guys.” More...

Day two of the rally has come to an end.
Chris and I have been pretty lucky weather wise with beautiful sunshine pouring on us most of the day. Just a wee bit of rain as we completed the last couple of kilometres. We were the 22nd car to leave this morning and it was a pretty chilly start to the day. Pretty nervous to start with, but didn’t take long to get into the swing of things. More...

2010 Energywise Rally: Day #1 & the pavlova pedal
A team of Trade Me staff is crewing a Commodore Omega in the 2010 AA Energywise Rally, courtesy of Holden New Zealand. Over the next four days the team will blog about their rally experiences.
The first day of the Rally proved the toughest day for many years. From heavy rain in the Waikato, through to fallen trees across roads in the King Country and howling northerlies in the Taranaki, all the teams are finding it hard going.
Two years ago we took out the overall Energywise Drivers Award in an HSV Maloo, delivering a useful 39% improvement in fuel economy. This year we’re seeking to be the most efficient large car and the competition is fierce: 49 cars are seeking line honours and the weather has made our mission much harder. Added to that, the route has changed and now involves driving through 10 small towns, as well as downtown Auckland and Hamilton today. More...
