Sell your car by number plate
We’re excited to announce a nifty new feature for Trade Me Motors that will make selling your car even easier.
With some help from our friends at NZTA, we can now grab a bunch of information about your car and fill in most of the listing details for you – all you need to do is provide us your number plate or VIN!
New Model Fields in Trade Me Motors
We’re currently working on ways to make it easier for members selling vehicles on Trade Me, and for buyers to find the vehicle they are looking for.
To achieve this, we’re making some changes to the sell process to improve the data we have available. As part of this work we’ve deployed a change today that alters the way we handle the ‘model’ attribute for used cars in Trade Me Motors.
Previously when you listed or relisted a vehicle, a free text field for the model attribute would need to be filled out. We’ve changed this to a drop-down list with a pre-determined set of models based on the chosen vehicle make. We’re also adding a ‘model detail’ field, which allows more specific detail on the sub-model or vehicle badge. More...

Introducing AutoReel – new video technology
From 3 October, Trade Me Motors is implementing a new video technology called AutoReel. This video feature will be available on participating dealers’ cars for sale, and will bring together the photos of the vehicle with a voiceover description.
You will be able to recognise listings that have AutoReel by a small video icon or play button on the vehicle’s photos.
We think it is going to be a great way of presenting all of the vehicle’s information at once, which should bring the car to life for members.
