Upcoming changes to Trade Me Jobs categories
On 10 December we will be refreshing our current category structure on Trade Me Jobs. Some new categories will be added and several of our existing categories will be renamed or removed.
While the changes will be relatively minor, they should help our job hunters find relevant jobs more quickly.
Any job listings that are live on site when the changes kick in, and are listed in renamed or removed categories, will automatically be moved over into the most closely related updated category. This will happen for all affected listings, including those listed by a third party provider. More...
Introducing Rummage
We’ve launched a cool, new visual searching and browsing tool for Trade Me called Rummage today. We built it in conjunction with a pair of smart entrepreneurs in California, using the images from Gallery listings.
It’s a free, fun, simple way to look at Trade Me listings in a visually interesting way, and it works really well on mobile and tablet devices.

Updating search on Trade Me
We've made some changes to the search function on Trade Me as we aim to enhance browsing and searching on the site.
When using the top search bar, you used to just see auto-suggest options. Now when searching you will see auto-suggest options and category suggestions, and you may also see your recent keyword searches.
Note that you must be logged into your Trade Me membership to see these recent searches, and you can enable, disable and clear your previous search terms at any time by clicking on the ‘Settings’ icon in the search box. You can also clear your recent search history by highlighting the search term and clicking the ‘X’ on the right-hand side. This is handy if you’re stealthily shopping for Christmas presents! More...
Update: Privacy policy
We’ve updated a couple of sections in our privacy policy in relation to the information around “Advertising and third party links” and “Internet statistics and analytics”. This is to keep members up to date with the information provided to Google through our use of various advertising services such as DoubleClick Ad Exchange and remarketing (including how to opt out), and our use of Google Analytics.
Calling all startups
Trade Me was founded on the notion that someone with an idea can achieve something awesome with a bit of hard yakka, a dash of smarts and some assistance from like-minded buddies. At Trade Me we’re all about trying new things, which is why we’re stoked to be supporting Lightning Lab.
The Lightning Lab initiative is designed to help business ideas fly, by offering investment and mentoring to passionate teams of startup entrepreneurs. What this means is if you and your mates have the workings of a business idea ready, Lightning Lab might be the boost you’ve been waiting for to give your project wings. You’ll be invested in and mentored by some of the brightest minds in the business scene, and get face-time with an invaluable team of mentors.
The programme runs for three months and is open to any team of startup founders across New Zealand and internationally. See the Lightning Lab website for more information, and apply online if you reckon you and your team have what it takes! More...
