Site Issue: Q & A and bidding

Written by Matt in Site status at 11:26am, Mon 31 Jan 2011

We had an issue on the site this morning between 11:00 and 11:40 where some people were unable to ask questions or bid on items. We have now fixed the problem and have extended all auctions that were due to close between 11:00 and 12:00 by two hours.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Rental supply on the up

Written by Paul in Property at 12:20pm, Mon 7 Feb 2011

Our Trade Me Property team has run some numbers and spreadsheets about the state of play in the national rental market. Here's a short media release setting out their findings and observations.

The national supply shortage for rental property has come to a halt in many parts of New Zealand, according to an analysis of the listings on Trade Me Property in the past three months.

Across the country, the number of rentals listed in the quarter to 31 December was up 1% compared to the same period in 2009. This was a turnaround after declines of 12% and 18% in the previous two quarters. More...

Pets & Animals now on the homepage

Written by Shona in General at 12:07pm, Wed 2 Feb 2011

You may have noticed that our homepage looks a little bit different today. That’s because our Pets & Animals category now sits between Music & Instruments and Pottery & Glass, making it easier for you to find fluffy kittens, playful pups, birds and fish, pet accessories, and much more.

“Dogs”, “cats”, and “puppies” often feature in the list of top searches on Trade Me, so it made sense to move Pets & Animals (which contains over 17,000 listings) up to the homepage. Happy pet-shopping!

Wellington waterfront’s free wifi switched on

We finally switched on the free wifi down on the Wellington waterfront today. If you live in or are visiting the capital, you should definitely come on down and try it out. Here's the release sent out today letting everyone know all about it.

Visitors to the waterfront in New Zealand’s capital will enjoy fast and free wireless internet access from today, thanks to a joint effort from Trade Me and Wellington City Council.

The free wifi network went live this morning, beaming from access points on The NZX Centre and Te Papa. It covers the area south from Frank Kitts Lagoon and along the waterfront side of Te Papa.  More...

Article on success fees off the mark

Written by The Trade Me team in General at 1:02pm, Sun 30 Jan 2011

The Herald on Sunday today published an inaccurate article about our upcoming success fee changes.

We want to reassure members that the Herald have many of their numbers wrong today – for example, the commission on a $1000 sale will go from $48.60 to $51.00, not to $118.50 as claimed in the article. Likewise, the claims about fees for items between $200 to $1500 are all inflated and inaccurate. It also casts some doubt on the accuracy of the poll they are running alongside the story online.

We’re pretty surprised by this article. The Herald is known for its standards, but this was shoddy reporting – the numbers were wrong and they didn't check them with us first. It was also disappointing that the article pushed a competing site without disclosing that the Herald’s parent company owns half of it.  More...
